A word of sage advice on becoming a Foster, from CACDR&R Board Member and Rehome Coordinator, Janet Broome, an expert on these dogs:
If you have no persistence, no strength of spirit, don't even consider a cattle dog. If you don't want/love a challenge, don't even consider a cattle dog. If you aren't willing to inconvenience yourself to foster a dog, don't sign up for a cattle dog. If you can't see the need to save a dog who stands a less than a 50% chance of getting out of a shelter but has a strong will to live, don't sign up for a cattle dog. If you can't see the challenge of battling intelligence near your own, don't sign up for a cattle dog. If you can't see that challenge of wills resulting in saving a dog so loyal they'd give their life for yours, don't sign up for a cattle dog. If you aren't willing.......you will settle for so much less.

Foster homes are always our biggest need. The more foster homes we have, the more ACDs we can save from shelters and other situations in which they need to be re-homed. We cover all vet expenses, professional training if needed, and we handle the entire adoption process for you. All we ask of our foster families is to love and care for their foster dog, work with them on basic manners and obedience, and help them to become the best cattle dog they can be!
