Carolina ACD Rescue & Rebound
Forever loved. Forever yours. Forever home.

Adopting an ACD from R&R
Health:
Our dogs come primarily from shelters. Sometimes the dog is given a vet exam, shots, and neutered before we pull him from the shelter. If the dog comes from a shelter where no vet work is performed, we ensure that the dog is taken to a vet as soon as possible. Our dogs are not adopted out until they have had all of their shots, are neutered, are microchipped, have been tested for heartworms, and pass a general health exam. Any heartworm positive dog will begin heartworm treatment  before being adopted.

Foster Homes:
All of our rescue dogs spend some time in a foster home. These homes are experienced with ACDs and usually have at least one cattle dog of their own. The foster homes evaluate the dog for temperament, soundness, energy level, and ability to get along with other dogs and people. The foster home provides a real-life situation for the rescue dog while he is crate-trained, house-broken, and learns to live comfortably with his foster family.

The Adoption Process

1. The Adoption Questionnaire
There are several pages to this and the questions asked help us determine what sort of home you can provide for the rescue dog. We evaluate each family and each dog separately. There is no one question or answer that is ‘make-or-break’.
2. Reference Checks
You will be asked to provide a vet reference and 3 personal references. We will contact these references to help us get to know you better as a pet owner.
3. The Home Visit
One of our Carolina R&R members (or a trusted person representing us) will visit your home to see how the dog would fit into your environment. This gives us a chance to look at the family and the home where the dog will be spending the rest of his life.
4. Meeting the Foster Dog
If possible, we would like you to meet the dog on neutral territory or at his foster home. You can see if this is the dog that you’d like to make a lifetime commitment to and it gives us a chance to see how you and the dog interact. You can ask questions about the dog and see how the dog fits into his foster home. Although this not required, we recommend this step and will work with you to find a time and place satisfactory to all.
5. The Adoption Contract
This is a simple document that states you accept the dog on our conditions and that you will treat the dog fairly and with kindness. You will sign and date this document.
6. The Adoption Fee
The adoption fee is $175.
